A day before joining the camp in Perak, right on 31 August 2026 which coincided with Malaysia’s 69th Independence Day (Hari Merdeka), I took a quick detour for a relaxed morning hike up Bukit Batu Putih, located in Gopeng, Perak, Malaysia.
This limestone hill stands at an elevation of 935 feet (around 285 meters ASL). Not overly tall, but the views and fun memories along the trail were so worth it!
Early Start & Local Entry Fee
To beat the scorching sun, I started hiking around 6.20 AM from the basecamp at Kampung Pintu Padang. The morning air was crisp and fresh, and the trail was blissfully quiet.
At the initial trailhead, local residents (warlok) collect a small entry fee of RM 5 per person. Super affordable for such a well-kept natural trail.
| Component | Fee / Detail |
|---|---|
| Local Entry Fee | RM 5 / person |
| Trekking Duration | ~60 minutes (round trip) |
| Elevation | 935 Ft (~285 masl) |
| Breakfast After Hike | RM 9 (Generous Portion) |
Fun Highlights Along the Trail
Even though the trail is categorized as easy and short, there were plenty of fun little moments that brought a smile to my face:
1. Ant March on Tree Trunks
Along one of the tree trunks I passed, I spotted a parade of ants marching in neat lines across the bark. It felt like watching a live nature documentary!

2. Group Trekking Memories
Walking alongside the trekking group made the morning hike so lively and fun. We kept encouraging each other and stopped a few times to capture group photos along the trail.

Starting your hike before 6.30 AM is the absolute best move! The air is cool, pollution-free, and you get to enjoy the quiet forest before crowds show up.
Reaching the Summit: Poetry, Aesthetic Rest, & Panoramic Views
Total tracking time up and down took only about 60 minutes (a quick, breezy round trip). Not enough to leave you completely gasping for air, but just enough to break a good sweat.
The moment you reach the top of this limestone hill, the open landscape over the limestone formations treats you to a breathtaking natural panorama.

From the summit, your eyes are spoiled by sweeping green palm oil plantations and the winding river curving around the Gopeng region below.

Reciting Poetry at the Peak
There was one deeply memorable moment at the summit: I took a moment to stand and recite a poem right on top of this rocky peak. The gentle breeze coupled with the expansive view made reading poetry feel extra poetic and serene.

Relaxing & Lying-Down Photo
Afterwards, since the peak was pleasantly cool and comfortable, I took time to lie down on the summit rock while taking an aesthetic photo. Unwinding while gazing at the blue sky above the limestone hill was truly the best way to recharge.

The rocks at the peak of Bukit Batu Putih tend to be sharp and slightly jagged. Be careful when lying down or sitting, and make sure your footing is secure.
Cheap & Hearty Breakfast (Only RM 9!)
After finishing the 60-minute round-trip trek and getting back down around 9–10 AM, my stomach was loudly demanding its breakfast reward.
I stopped by a local eatery nearby for breakfast. To my pleasant surprise, the food was crazy cheap! For just RM 9, I got a massive, incredibly satisfying breakfast spread, exactly as shown in the photo.

Hot food paired with a cold iced tea after a good workout… absolute perfection!
Final Verdict
Bukit Batu Putih in Gopeng is one of the best short hikes if you ever find yourself in Perak, Malaysia. Short trail (around an hour round trip), unreal views, cheap local fee (RM 5), fun group moments, reading poetry at the peak, aesthetic photos, and a hearty RM 9 breakfast waiting for you down below.
